Well, I am pleased to report I have moved forward with my goal of reading fifty books this year. I just finished The Survivor’s Club, by Lisa Gardner!!

I can’t go walking today, I think. It’s not that I’m procrastinating, it’s that I really can’t! Which sucks, because I was looking forward to it.

Well, last night, I actually got in some activity. Today, I haven’t been able to because of extenuating circumstances.

Logging for 12/21/08

OK, so yesterday night I decided I needed to start logging what I eat and do. Today, someone gave me four pieces of chocolate. I ate one, and before starting on the second piece, I actually decided to go on the computer and search for the caloric value. Turns out 8 pieces is 200 calories, so each piece I had was only worth 25! Yes! I ate two, and the rest are for tomorrow=]

On an unrelated note, I also decided that although I knew in my head what I needed to do to accomplish each resolution was, I needed to put it down on paper in order to make it more concrete. So I did, and now I actually feel like I’ll be able to move forward with my goals. I decided to do a weekly review of my goals last night, and set up my weekly schedule to incorporate tasks that needed to be completed in order to move things forward=]

Another thing I have learned is that I can’t really work on any of my goals around my significant other..he just distracts me too much hehe. So yeah, the only way I can be productive is if he’s not around. I wonder, is this the case for most people? It’s not like he would ridicule me – he would actually be very supportive, like always. It’s just that I prefer to keep things like that stored away when I’m with him. I trust him and everything, it’s just that with everyone else, I discuss intellectual matters. With him, I can actually talk about emotional stuff I don’t talk about with most people. I spend all day talking about more serious things, and I like to come home and be able to relax my mind around him and just be my true myself, no business talk or anything. I just don’t want to bring my work home, I guess that’s what I’m trying to say.

Man, today I had a lazy day. All I did was sleep!! Well, when I’m wearing pajamas and there’s nothing to do [i forgot my to-do list because I typically don't work on weekends]. I’m listening to a really nice song. I really like the beginning, and happened to be listening to it when I stumbled upon a picture of someone I used to really like. I just studied his photo, remembering some of what happened between us [I'm over him, I was just reminiscing about an event weeks ago..] The song somehow captured part of how I used to feel when I was around him, and kind of how I feel about my boyfriend now as well. Today my boyfriend and I talked a little about a poem I composed awhile ago. It was a romantic one, and one thing I neglected to mention was that he himself was the inspiration for it…back when I supposedly felt nothing for him hehe. He thinks it’s a very beautiful poem, but I still never could work up the nerve to tell him..I’m not really the type to wax lyrical about romance, but the anonymity liberated me to just share a very intimate part of myself in a way I never do. Maybe today I’ll tell him…

A little background information

In case you’d like to know what set all of this in motion, it was actually an article on one of my favorite sites. It was about New Year’s resolution, and if you want to read it you can find it here. This line in particular struck a chord with me for some reason:

“New Year’s resolutions are a great way to move your life ahead. They give you hope for the New Year plus direction for your life. New Year’s resolutions seem to bring out more creative, adventurous ideas, than if we told ourselves to make a list of goals for next year.”

So, enthusiastic after Googling several other sites on the same topic, I made up my resolution. I have a total of eight, and I elected to type it up just to make it that much more official:

However, this was a few days ago and since then I hadn’t been able to find the time to work on it except for a quick mind dump for each resolution [basically just brainstorming and listing steps I need to take in order to accomplish each goal in no particular order. I stored each on a separate sticky, in the form of bullet lists. Here's the link to the software I use, I can't imagine not having it! Stickies. It's saved my hide many times, by popping up reminders about things I would have forgotten otherwise [with catastrophic effects]. Also, it’s even more convenient because I can set recurring reminders. This way, I never forget what I have to do each week – I just go on the computer and there it is.

Today, though, I made the time to fine-tune the list for weight-loss and it’s worked out very well. I’ll post some more of what I did soon.

Well, I’m just going to introduce myself now: my name is dianne920. The reason I’m starting this blog today is that I want to chronicle my progress with one of my New Year’s Resolutions: to lose 20 pounds. Original? No. Important? Yes. I have a decent amount of friends and a very loving boyfriend. However, I’ve been struggling with my steadily increasing weight for months now, and I have decided that enough is enough. So, by December 2009, I plan to have lost twenty pounds. I plan on using this blog to hold myself accountable for my actions, and to measure my progress. That’s pretty much all I have to say for this post, so to wrap up I’d like to say that any feedback would be greatly appreciated (not neccesarily for this post, but for future ones if you have anything you’d like to share)
